Reading your number

What the rate tells you

  • Compare with yourself first

Your own last 10 posts are the fairest yardstick. A rate that's rising means what you're doing is working.

  • Big accounts run lower

As follower counts grow, the share of people who react usually falls. Compare with creators your size, not with everyone.

  • Say which one you mean

By views and by followers can differ several times over for the same post. When you send a brand your rate, say which it is.

Questions

About engagement rate

What is engagement rate?

How many people reacted to a post compared with how many saw it (by views) or could have seen it (by followers). Reactions here are likes and comments, plus shares and saves if you add them.

How do you calculate engagement rate on TikTok?

Add up likes, comments and shares, divide by views, and multiply by 100. A video with 25,000 views, 1,200 likes, 85 comments and 40 shares has an engagement rate of 5.30%. Most TikTok views come from people who don't follow you, so the rate by views is the fairer one there. The MyCreatorPulse dashboard counts likes and comments only, because not every platform shows shares, so it reads a little lower: 5.14% for the same video.

Should I use views or followers?

Both are useful. By views says how well a post landed with the people who saw it, which suits TikTok, Reels and YouTube. By followers is what many brands still ask for on Instagram. If a brand asks for your engagement rate, it's worth asking which one they mean, and telling them which one you're sending.

Should I work it out for one post or several?

Several. One post can be a fluke either way. Add up your last 10 posts and enter 10 as the number of posts: by views uses the totals, and by followers uses the average per post.

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on the platform, your niche and your size: smaller accounts usually have higher rates than big ones, and published benchmarks disagree with each other a lot. The most useful comparison is your own recent posts. If your rate is rising, what you're doing is working.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, with no sign-up and nothing to connect. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere; it's worked out in your browser.
